Thea Lavender is an individual of many interests. Spending most of her childhood in SouthWest Florida, she moved to Detroit with the intention of finishing her BFA in Craft and Material Studies at the College for Creative Studies. With a minor in Art Therapy, she intends to continue schooling for a Bachelors in Behavioral Psychology as well as completing a MFA in Ceramics or Color and Material Studies. Thea’s art practice follows her passion for the natural world and often discusses the relationship between her spirituality, emotional well being, and the surrounding environment.
My ceramic work is meant to embody the intense connection we often dismiss between our communities and our Earth. I strive to spark conversation regarding our interconnectivity on a spiritual, emotional and physical level. While I have a focus on clay, I often try to incorporate other mediums into my pieces. I hope to continue researching ways to bring more natural, earth based and sustainable materials into my process. I am currently on the journey towards opening a multi-disciplinary residency program that offers a work/make partnership between the studio and visiting artists.
